Gríski harmleikurinn
Eins og sakir standa, eru sterkar líkur á því að lýðveldið Grikkland muni verða gjaldþrota inni í myntbandalagi Evrópusambandsins. Allir sem hlut eiga að máli vona að til þessa muni ekki koma.
Málið er stórt og mjög flókið. Ef gríska lýðveldið mun fara í þrot, þá yrði um stærsta ríkisgjaldþrot mannkynssögunnar að ræða. Peningalega eru tæplega hálf billjón evrur í húfi. Þetta yrði stærra en samanlagt ríkisgreiðslufall Argentínu og Rússlands. Og það sem verra er, það mun eiga sér stað inni í miðju myntbandalagi Evrópusambandsins. Það yrði verst hugsanlegi staðurinn til að fara í ríkisgjaldþrot. Afleiðingarnar yrðu geigvænlegar fyrir alla aðila.
Tilgangurinn með þessari síðu er að fylgjast sérstaklega með þróun þessa máls.

Mr. Dominique Strauss-Kahn, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), issued the following statement today on Greece:
“We have received Greece’s request for a Stand-By Arrangement. We have been working closely with the Greek authorities for some weeks on technical assistance, and have had a mission on the ground in Athens for a few days working with the authorities and the European Union. We are prepared to move expeditiously on this request.”
