So the euro is a success. Or is it?

Mr. Marsh says it’s too soon to say. He is concerned about opinion polls showing that most people in France, Italy, Spain and German think the new currency has had a negative impact on their economies. Then again, who is happy about their economy these days? He argues that the euro’s popularity with investors — and, one would think, rappers — has more to do with the dollar’s weakness than with the euro’s strength. Granted, the euro hasn’t been doing quite as well against the buck lately. But isn’t it always better to have the currency with more muscle?
